Summer Creek Takes Series Over Strake Jesuit in District Baseball Showdown
A hot Strake Jesuit squad entered Thursday night's matchup riding momentum with 12 wins in their last 13 games, but Summer Creek had other plans in this district baseball series.
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning when Caleb Anderson singled back up the box, allowing Noah Hernandez to slide home safely for a 1-0 lead. Strake Jesuit answered immediately in the bottom of the first as Nico Broyles roped one to the wall in left field, plating Alberto Barbose to knot the game at 1-1.
Summer Creek's defense came up big in the bottom of the third when Barbose fielded a comebacker and started a smooth 1-6-3 double play to end the threat. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead on a throwing error, as Terrell Shanks hit a one-hopper to the pitcher, but the throw to first sailed away down the line, allowing Austin Miller to race home and give Summer Creek a 3-1 advantage.
Hernandez extended the lead with a line drive to right-center that brought Shanks chugging around third, beating the throw at the plate to make it 4-1. Summer Creek held on for a 4-2 victory, securing the series win over the Crusaders.
