June 3, 2026
Houston Memorial reached the 6A-D2 baseball semifinals for the first time, falling 3-2 to Dripping Springs before winning the series Saturday.

For the first time in program history, Houston Memorial reached the 6A-Division 2 baseball semifinals — and the Mustangs made it a series to remember.

Memorial came out swinging in Game 1 against Dripping Springs. Isaac Richardson got things started in the first inning, taking a pitch the other way to score Evan Mauritzen. Later in the frame, Halen Heinz lined one over the left fielder's head to plate Tanner Drda, pushing the lead to 2-0.

The Mustangs held that advantage into the fourth, where pitcher Matthew Manis stranded a Dripping Springs runner at third with a strikeout to keep it a one-run game. But Dripping Springs tied it in the fifth and took the lead for good when Breyden Madeley launched one to left, scoring Sam Branyon for the decisive run.

Dripping Springs took Game 1, 3-2. Memorial responded on Saturday to win the series and advance.
