Royce Swan Runs Wild as Pearland Stays Unbeaten with 41-21 Win Over Manvel
The Rig lived up to its billing Friday night. Two of the Houston area's most prolific offenses traded blows through the first half before Pearland's ground game took over and the Oilers pulled away for a 41-21 victory over Manvel.
It was a tight contest early. Manvel quarterback Brayden Tuiasasopo escaped pressure and found Jordan Jackson at the goal line to tie the game at 7-7. Bryce Francis then punched in an inside handoff to give the Mavericks a 14-13 edge — their only lead of the night.
That's when Royce Swan took over. The Pearland running back scored twice in the second quarter, the second a 61-yard burst, to push the Oilers to a 27-14 halftime advantage. He added a third touchdown in the fourth quarter to complete the hat trick. Ryan Miller also contributed a 36-yard scoring run, and Kaleb Smith connected with KJ Johnson on a play-action pass to cap the scoring.
Pearland improves to 6-0 on the season, with the offense showing the kind of balance — and the backfield the kind of difference-maker — that will draw attention as district play deepens.
