Bay City 29, El Campo 19 | Oldest Rivalry in Texas Delivers in 2026
The oldest continuous rivalry in Texas needed no extra billing. Bay City and El Campo delivered a genuine back-and-forth contest, with the Blackcats ultimately handing El Campo their first defeat of the 2026 season, 29-19.
Bay City drew first blood on a busted play that turned into a 43-yard touchdown run by Aiden Williams off a pitch from Keimarion Wiggins, giving the Blackcats a 6-0 edge after a missed conversion. El Campo responded quickly, with Jordan Powell taking it 15 yards around the end to the pylon to put the Ricebirds on top 7-6.
The lead changed hands again in the second quarter when Vladimir Garcia, who finished with over 100 yards rushing, punched it in from a yard out to tie the game at 13. But with 19 seconds left before halftime, Wiggins connected with Davieon Agu on a 12-yard touchdown pass to send Bay City into the break leading 20-13.
Williams added another long score in the second half — a 40-plus yard run — to push the Blackcats' advantage to 27-13. El Campo mounted a late push, with quarterback Colt Reeves finding Aiden Ballejo on a fourth-and-goal touchdown strike with 30 seconds remaining. The Ricebirds' extra point attempt was blocked and returned the length of the field for two points, effectively ending any comeback hopes.
Bay City wins 29-19, keeping their standing in one of Texas high school football's most storied rivalries intact.
