A 21-0 halftime deficit proved too much for Shadow Creek to overcome, as Ridge Point rolled to a 28-7 victory in a highly anticipated early-season meeting between two of Houston's prominent programs.
Quarterback Brody Bartee was sharp throughout, opening the scoring with a quick hitter to John Rangel, who spun away from defenders and outraced the coverage for the first touchdown. DuQuay Buckhanon capped a second productive drive to push the lead to 14-0, and just before halftime, Bartee found Jaxson Clark on a fingertip grab — Clark adding a pair of spin moves after the catch — to send Ridge Point into the break up three scores.
The Panthers' defense matched the offense's production. Trey Moore stripped Tavis Coleman to force a fumble and kill a Shadow Creek drive, keeping the shutout intact through three quarters. Shadow Creek's defense had its moments as well — Jacoby Thomas beat two blockers for a sack to halt one Ridge Point possession — but the Sharks couldn't generate enough offense to threaten the lead.
Coleman finally connected with Kaleb Samuels across the middle in the fourth quarter, with Samuels turning it into a 50-yard touchdown to get Shadow Creek on the board. But Bartee answered quickly, rolling right and hitting a wide-open Suhaib Ramseur to seal the 28-7 final and send a clear early-season statement from the Ridge Point program.
