Pearland Softball Shuts Out Atascocita 8-0 Behind Guzman's Pitching

Pearland softball defeats Atascocita 8-0, extending win streak to 16. Madelyn Guzman pitches shutout as Oilers reach 31 wins.

Two of the Houston area's top softball programs met with contrasting momentum: Pearland riding a 15-game winning streak and sitting at 30 wins, while Atascocita brought 25 victories earned through the gauntlet of District 23-6A.

Pearland struck first when Atascocita shortstop Payton Shugart couldn't handle a hot shot cleanly, allowing Anison Lopez to cross the plate for a 1-0 lead. The Eagles threatened to extend the inning, but Maya Hernandez snared a comebacker to limit the damage.

The Oilers broke it open in the second inning. Shugart lined a two-run single to the left-center gap with two runners aboard, plating Lopez and Kendall Hartnett to push the advantage to 3-0.

Madelyn Guzman controlled the game from the circle for Pearland, recording a strikeout to end the fifth inning and keeping Atascocita off the scoreboard. Olivia Matejka added insurance in the seventh with a solo home run over the right field wall.

Pearland completed the 8-0 shutout, extending its winning streak to 16 games and improving to 31 wins on the season.
