Katy Softball Rallies Past Kingwood 6-2 in Extra Innings

May 20, 2026
Katy softball scores four runs in the eighth inning to defeat Kingwood 6-2, extending their win streak to 14 games.

Two of the Houston area's hottest softball teams met with lengthy win streaks on the line. Kingwood entered riding a 12-game winning streak, while Katy brought an even longer 13-game run into the matchup.

Katy struck first when E-K Smith roped a ball that one-hopped the wall in right-center, plating Hailey Schmitt to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Schmitt contributed in the circle as well, recording a strikeout in the third inning.

Kingwood's Hunter Quintel matched Schmitt's effectiveness, striking out the side in the fifth inning. Quintel then helped tie the game in the sixth, laying down a squeeze bunt that allowed Lyla Cate Wimberley to beat the throw and knot the score at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked until the eighth inning, when Katy broke through. Nevaeh Phillips found the gap with a ball that rolled to the wall, scoring Evie Willemssen and Julia Milnes to put the Tigers up 3-1. Libby Hroch followed by playing pepper off the center field wall, bringing in Phillips. Schmitt then rocketed one to left field, driving in two more runs.

Katy's four-run eighth inning proved decisive as the Tigers secured a 6-2 victory, pushing their win streak to 14 games.
