Elite starting pitching has been the backbone of Memorial's deep UIL playoff run, and no one has embodied that more than senior right-hander Cash Scarborough. The Mustangs' ace brings a three-pitch mix that has left opposing lineups guessing all season — a fastball sitting in the upper 90s, a sweeper that breaks late, and a cutter clocking in at the mid-80s. The combination has been enough to carry Memorial to the regional finals.
Scarborough, this week's Parker University MVP, says the fastball is his anchor. "Get hit by anybody and then play off of that or the slider cutter — just make him look silly," he said. When he's locked in, he describes it as a flow state: complete command of location and movement, and the confidence that comes with knowing hitters have no answer.
The Memorial Mustangs have built a program with playoff pedigree, and Scarborough says this group has unfinished business. "This team is special," he said. "I want to go far and accomplish what our main goal has been the past couple of years and get it done." The senior also spoke about the small things he'll carry with him — including the team's pregame hacky sack tradition — as his time with the Mustangs winds down.
After drawing interest from multiple high-major programs, Scarborough committed to Oklahoma State. He cited the Cowboys' coaching staff, the atmosphere in Stillwater, and the program's track record of developing pitchers who compete on the national stage. His goal: get to Omaha.
