Doug Rush Named Parker University Baseball Coach of the Year | Tomball Goes 43-1-1

Three state championships. More than 400 wins at a single school. A 43-1-1 record capped by a state title game victory over Memorial. By any measure, Doug Rush's 2025 season at Tomball stands as one of the most accomplished campaigns in Texas high school baseball history.

Rush was named the Parker University Baseball Coach of the Year, a recognition that came after the Cougars spent the entire season as the team everyone else was chasing. Ranked No. 1 nationally, Tomball carried enormous expectations from opening day — expectations that only grew heavier when a pair of players departed early in the year for an academy, briefly dropping the Cougars out of the top 10 in state rankings. What followed was a 43-1-1 run that left little room for debate.

Rush arrived at Tomball in 2011, inheriting a program in a community he describes as a baseball town in every sense. With professional training facilities nearby and a culture that gravitates toward the sport, he found what he calls the perfect storm. His career win total now exceeds 600, with more than 400 of those coming in Tomball.

The 2025 title carried an added layer of meaning. Rush's son, a sophomore, was on the roster — and delivered in the biggest moment, going 3-for-3 with four RBI in the state championship game. Rush took the Tomball job in 2011 while holding his son, then one and a half years old, in his arms when he met the parents for the first time. Winning it together made this championship distinct from the other two, even as Rush was careful to honor every team he has coached.

The award was presented alongside a custom bobblehead, which Rush said he plans to order more of. It is a fitting footnote to a season that will be difficult to top.
