Shadow Creek DB Brandon Sherrard: Texas Commit & Parker University MVP

Injuries couldn't keep Brandon Sherrard off the radar of college programs — or off the field for long. The Shadow Creek cornerback missed time last season but still posted two interceptions and 22 tackles in just seven games, enough to earn Parker University MVP honors from HOU Inside High School Sports and draw a commitment from the University of Texas.

At 6-foot-2, Sherrard carries the frame scouts look for in a cover corner — long, athletic, and physical at the line of scrimmage. His approach is straightforward: get into a receiver's release, disrupt the route, and make the quarterback think twice before looking his way. "Receivers do not want the DB to be touching them at all," Sherrard said. "They want to run a free route. That's not what I like to do."

Shadow Creek, one of the premier programs in the Houston area, has given Sherrard a built-in proving ground. The Sharks consistently field some of the top receiving talent in the state, and Sherrard credits those daily battles in practice as a major factor in his development. "Since I first got to go up against our talent — that's what made me who I am today," he said.

Texas was the clear choice when it came to his college decision. Sherrard pointed to the Longhorns' defensive scheme and the program's culture as the factors that sealed it. "The way they operate, the way they move forward to attack adversity — everything just felt like that was the place for me," he said.
