Pearland's Madelyn Guzman Throws Second Playoff No-Hitter in 6A-D1 Win Over Cy Ridge
A 17-1 run through 18 games set the stage for Pearland's dominant postseason performance in 6A-Division 1, and pitcher Madelyn Guzman delivered another gem against Cy Ridge.
The Oilers struck early when Payton Shugart found the gap in left-center, plating Layla Bennett from third for a 1-0 lead. After Pearland loaded the bases, Cy Ridge's Brianna Morales made a diving catch and stepped on the bag for an inning-ending double play, but the damage was done—Pearland led 3-0.
Pearland's defense matched the offensive output. Kaitlyn McIntyre tracked down a foul pop, and Olivia Matejka made a running catch to keep Cy Ridge off the board.
Shugart struck again in the fourth inning, driving a pitch over the left fielder's head to score Anison Lopez and Bennett, extending the lead to 5-0.
Guzman dominated in the circle, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning. With two outs, she fielded a comebacker and recorded the final out, securing her second no-hitter of the playoffs. Pearland won 10-0 and took the series.
