Forney Ends Tomball's 22-Game Win Streak in 9-8 Thriller

May 20, 2026
Forney rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat Tomball 9-8 on a walk-off, ending the Cougars' 22-game winning streak in the playoffs.

A 22-game winning streak and a deep postseason run came to an end in one of the more dramatic finishes of the UIL softball playoffs. Tomball, riding the momentum of one of the longest active win streaks in the Houston area, could not hold off a relentless Forney squad that scored in bunches and delivered the knockout blow in the final inning.

The Cougars came out swinging in game two of the series. Kohen Gonzalez got things started with an RBI, plating Aubrey Murillo for a 2-0 lead. Brileigh Taylor added a run-scoring liner to left in the second inning, and then Leila Guerra delivered the big blow — a three-run shot down the left-field line that stretched the Tomball advantage to 6-1.

But Forney answered with a six-run second inning of its own, capped by Kambree Wilson's RBI single to left that gave the visitors a 7-6 lead. Tomball tied it in the third on an Emma Davis liner to center that scored Fabi Marcano, and Taylor broke a 7-7 deadlock in the sixth with an RBI hit to left, scoring Murillo for an 8-7 Cougar lead.

It wasn't enough. Forney pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh, with Sophia Heredia delivering the walk-off hit over the left fielder's head to complete the 9-8 comeback. Forney advances, and Tomball's remarkable postseason run ends one win short of the next round.
