Katy vs Atascocita Baseball: Tigers Win Game 4-2 in Playoff Series
Two Houston-area programs with contrasting momentum met in a playoff series that came down to the wire. Atascocita had won five of its last six games, but Katy brought a scorching 16-game winning streak into the matchup.
The Tigers struck first when Cannon Karnuth sent a high fly ball to right field that the outfielder lost in the sun, allowing Karnuth to race to third with a triple. Adriel Rivera followed with a sharp single past third into left, plating Karnuth for the early lead. Rivera added another RBI in the third inning with a shot to center that scored Karnuth again, extending Katy's advantage to 4-0 after Owen Scarborough launched a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
Atascocita mounted a comeback in the later innings. Ty Higginbotham drove in Kaleb Thomas with a single up the middle to cut the deficit to 4-1. Jackson Wooten then delivered a two-run hit to left-center that scored Higginbotham, pulling the Eagles within 4-2. But Katy reliever Logan Stricklen entered and struck out the side to escape the jam.
Katy secured the 4-2 victory in the game, though Atascocita rallied to win the series and advance in the playoffs.
