Katy Softball Rolls to 13th Straight Win, Blanks George Ranch 12-0
Thirteen straight wins. That's where Katy softball stands after a 12-0 run-rule victory over George Ranch on Friday night, a performance that was over almost before it started.
The Tigers wasted no time in the first inning. Nevaeh Phillips singled to left to plate Julia Milnes and put Katy on the board. Then, with the bases loaded, Kallie Kurtz got a pitch she liked and drove it over the center field wall — a grand slam that pushed the lead to 5-0 after one.
Five runs is typically more than enough when EK Smith is in the circle, and this game was no exception. Smith struck out the side in the third inning, then stepped into the batter's box in the fourth and crushed a changeup over the left field wall. Evie Williamson followed in the same inning with a home run to right, putting the outcome well beyond doubt.
The 12-0 final sends Katy — Houston's top-ranked team — to the area finals, where the Tigers will look to keep their postseason run going.
