Girls Soccer Coach of the Year: Adam Bell, Humble Kingwood Lady Mustangs

Eleven goals allowed. One hundred and thirty scored. An undefeated season capped by a state championship that had not come to Kingwood in 27 years. The numbers alone make the case for Adam Bell as the Parker University Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.

Bell's Humble Kingwood Lady Mustangs needed a goal in the final 40 seconds of regulation to force overtime against their title game opponent, then finished the job on penalty kicks to claim the program's third state championship overall. The defensive discipline that defined the season was no accident — Bell built his system around a team-first mentality he calls attitude and effort.

"To be a good defensive team, a lot of girls just have to be able to sacrifice themselves for the greater good," Bell said. "It's a lot of bravery to go up for a 50-50 ball. A lot of it just has to be them wanting it more than the other kid."

Bell credited his ten graduating seniors — including captains Kate Christensen and Cameron Hicks, along with standout Concepcion Maya — for building a culture that extended well beyond the field. Underclassmen described a senior group that gave car rides, organized team dinners, and treated every player as an equal regardless of class standing.

"They set a precedent that hopefully we'll be able to continue for the next 20, 30, 50 years," Bell said.
