Barbers Hill Shuts Out College Station 7-0 to Advance in 5A Playoffs
A dominant pitching performance and timely hitting carried Barbers Hill into the third round of the 5A Division 1 playoffs with a 7-0 shutout of College Station in game two of their area round series at Cy Fair ISD.
The Eagles jumped ahead early when Joslynn Cooper drove in Izzy Lawrence with a base hit to right field in the first inning. Barbers Hill led 2-0 after one.
Macie Bryant controlled the game from the circle, striking out 13 batters in a complete game shutout. The Eagles pitcher kept College Station off balance throughout, never allowing the Cougars to mount a threat.
Barbers Hill extended the lead in the second inning when Izzy Lawrence singled up the middle to bring in Helena Lawrence, making it 3-0. Avery Corona then connected on a three-run homer to left field, pushing the advantage to 6-0.
The Eagles defense sealed the victory with spectacular plays in the final innings. In the seventh, outfielder Ashlyn Cooper made a leaping catch at the wall to rob College Station of extra bases. On the final play of the game, her sister Joslynn Cooper made a diving catch on a line drive to third base to end it.
Barbers Hill advances with the 7-0 victory, moving on to face the next opponent in the 5A Division 1 playoff bracket.
