Brayden Weisner: Huffman-Hargrave's 200-K Right-Hander Headed to LSU
About 30 miles northeast of Houston, a hard-throwing right-hander has been quietly putting up numbers that big-time programs couldn't ignore. Huffman-Hargrave's Brayden Weisner eclipsed 200 career strikeouts this season, and LSU came calling.
Weisner stands 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds — size that translates well to the college level — and his pitch mix backs up the frame. His fastball sits 90 to 95 mph, and he pairs it with a curveball clocking around 80 mph, a slider at 85, and a changeup in the mid-80s. That 10-to-15 mph gap between his heater and breaking ball gives hitters very little time to adjust.
Analyst Jeff Power noted that while some may question the level of competition Weisner faces in Class 4A, he held his own against elite opponents throughout the year — a critical data point for evaluators. Reaching 200 career strikeouts at any level speaks to consistency and durability, not just raw stuff.
Huffman-Hargrave has built a reputation as a perennial contender in both baseball and softball, and Weisner's recruitment continues that program's tradition of producing college-level talent. LSU, which has historically recruited the Golden Triangle region of Southeast Texas, adds a pitcher who could contribute as the Tigers look to rebound from a down season in Baton Rouge.
