Klein Oak RB Micah Rhodes Flips Commitment from Oklahoma to Texas
Commitment flips are a reality of modern recruiting, and the University of Texas just landed one of the more notable ones in the Houston area. Klein Oak junior running back Micah Rhodes, a four-star prospect in the Class of 2028, has decommitted from Oklahoma and pledged to the Longhorns after nearly a year with the Sooners.
At 5-9 and 180 pounds, Rhodes has been a standout in the Klein ISD program since his freshman year, when he rushed for close to 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns to earn District Offensive Newcomer honors. His sophomore campaign pushed those numbers further — over 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns. This season, he is averaging more than 150 yards per game with double-digit rushing scores once again.
Analyst Jeff Power describes Rhodes as a dynamic, versatile back who thrives in the wildcat formation. He brings respectable speed, sharp cutting ability, and the acceleration and deceleration to make defenders miss in the open field. He is also a capable receiver out of the backfield, adding another dimension to his game.
The timing of the flip carries an interesting footnote. Rhodes made his decision to commit to Texas around the same time the Longhorns fell to Oklahoma — and his grandfather, Bobby Rhodes, played for Texas in the 1980s. A family legacy in burnt orange may have played a role in bringing Micah to the Forty Acres.
