Pearland Catcher Peyton Shugart Named Parker University MVP After Record Senior Season

May 20, 2026
Pearland catcher Peyton Shugart batted .624 with 54 RBI in her senior season, earning Parker University MVP honors before heading to Texas State.

A .624 batting average doesn't happen by accident. For three years, Pearland softball has built its offense around catcher Peyton Shugart, and her senior season proved why opposing teams will be relieved to see her graduate.

Shugart's final year with the Lady Oilers produced 58 hits, seven home runs, and 54 RBI, earning her district offensive MVP honors for the third consecutive season. The Parker University MVP helped lead Pearland to its third straight 25-plus win season, continuing a program tradition of dominance in the Houston area.

Behind the plate, Shugart's leadership extended beyond her offensive production. Her chemistry with Pearland's pitching staff and ability to manage games from the catcher's position made her a complete player. That combination of offensive firepower and defensive leadership caught the attention of Texas State, where Shugart will continue her career with the Bobcats in San Marcos.

Shugart credited her hitting coach for the work that transformed her into one of the state's most feared hitters, emphasizing the constant adjustments and training that produced her record-breaking senior numbers.
