Landon Brown: Iowa Colony's MLB Draft Prospect Headed to Mississippi State
Eight wins, one loss, 110 strikeouts in just 66 innings—and a fastball that consistently registers in the mid-90s. Those are the numbers that have professional scouts paying close attention to Iowa Colony right-hander Landon Brown heading into the July MLB Draft.
Brown anchored a Pioneer rotation that helped Iowa Colony finish second in district and advance two rounds into the playoffs before falling to Kingwood Park. On the mound, he relied on a power fastball backed by a sharp slider and a changeup he deployed against left-handed hitters. His velocity first touched 90 as a freshman, and a dedicated daily regimen of pitching mechanics and conditioning has pushed it well beyond that since.
What makes Brown a legitimate two-way prospect is what he did when he wasn't pitching. He began his career at Iowa Colony as a power-hitting third baseman, and that bat never left him—he hit .240 with 13 home runs as a senior, giving scouts a second tool to evaluate alongside his arm.
Brown is committed to Mississippi State, a perennial SEC powerhouse, where he's expected to contribute as a two-way player. He's spoken openly about the program's culture and the quality of its facilities. Still, the possibility of being selected in the draft before he ever puts on a Bulldogs uniform remains very real. Brown says he's trying not to look too far ahead, but acknowledges that getting drafted out of high school would be a dream come true for him and his family.
