Jerry Prieto is Becoming Legendary as the Head Coach at Crosby
When Jerry Prieto left Veteran’s Memorial in Corpus Christi to take over as the Head Coach at Crosby, he said he was drawn to the Cougars by their rich tradition of success. Now in year 3, Prieto has not only taken the Cougars to the state championship for the first time since 1960, but is on the doorstep of doing it again in back to back years. Despite graduating some super talented skilled positioned players, Crosby hasn’t looked back and may have even gotten better.
Prieto is known for his offensive mind. In his last two years at Veteran’s Memorial, his team averaged 44.2 points a game. This year’s Crosby team is averaging over 50 points a game. The Cougars are using the motto “all gas no brakes” and it’s demoralized most of their opponents.
The Cougars have shown that they are also a solid defensive team as well. Last week against Texas High the offense had trouble getting going, but the defense only allowed 7 points and Crosby advanced 14-7. Seniors Tyler Cooper and McCoy Casey have combined for 35 sacks this year. They need to step up because unlike last year, the Cougars have a clear target on their backs.
