The Woodlands places second at 6A state golf. Tomball's Trousdale wins silver, Strake Jesuit's Magon takes bronze at White Bluff Resort.

Austin Westlake claimed its ninth team title in ten years at the UIL 6A boys golf state championship, but the greater Houston area made its presence felt at White Bluff Resort near Lake Whitney. The Woodlands, entering as a pre-tournament favorite, finished second among the state's 6A programs, six shots back of the dominant Westlake squad.

The Highlanders held a two-shot lead at one point during the back nine on the final day before giving back strokes down the stretch. Despite falling short of the team title, The Woodlands turned around a season of struggles with a strong finish at state.

On the individual side, Tomball sophomore Daniel Trousdale captured silver, finishing just one shot behind the medalist. Trousdale's performance marked a historic moment for Tomball golf, as this year's team became the first in program history to qualify for state.

Strake Jesuit junior Aryan Magon earned bronze after surviving a sudden-death playoff against four other competitors. Magon's third-place finish capped the Crusaders' first state tournament appearance in two decades.

Cooper Paull, the 2020 state champion, closed out his high school career with a 14th-place finish. Grand Oaks senior Asher Vargas, defending his individual title from last year, also tied for 14th after shooting three-over 147. Anthony Butt of The Woodlands carried a one-shot lead after day one but struggled in the final round, finishing tied for eighth.
