Boling Tennis Duo Kenzi Gibson and Wyatt Sharp Capture District 24-3A Title
Growth within the Wharton County tennis scene has been steady over the past decade, and Boling High School is currently reaping the benefits of that development. Under the leadership of eighth-year head coach Jonathan Gibson, the Bulldogs' tennis roster has expanded from just a dozen players to 35, culminating in recent postseason success for the program.
At the forefront of this spring's playoff push is the mixed doubles tandem of senior Kenzi Gibson and junior Wyatt Sharp. Despite this being their first season paired together on the court, the duo recently captured the District 24-3A championship. Their contrasting styles have proven highly effective; Gibson provides veteran consistency and baseline flexibility, while Sharp, a multi-sport athlete who also competes in baseball, basketball, and track, utilizes his height and athleticism to dominate the net.
Because Boling does not participate in fall team tennis, the program focuses entirely on the spring season. The strategy is paying off as Gibson and Sharp prepare for the regional tournament. Having reached regionals in each of her four high school years, Gibson and her new partner are now aiming to advance past the regional bracket and compete for a state mixed doubles title.
