Dillon Mitchell: CE King's Superman Runs 9.92 and Chases Football Glory

Speed like Dillon Mitchell's doesn't come around often — not in Houston, not in Texas, not anywhere. The CE King High School junior ran a 9.92 in the 100 meters at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin to win gold at the UIL Class 6A State Track and Field Championships, then added a silver medal in the 200 meters with a time of 20.5 seconds.

Those numbers alone would make Mitchell one of the premier prep sprinters in the country, but his résumé goes further. He set a world record for under-18 athletes in the 60 meters, clocking 6.59 seconds at the U.S. Track and Field Indoor Championships. He was also part of a relay team that posted a world record time of 38.16 seconds in the 4x100 at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Oregon.

The talent runs in the family. Mitchell's mother competed in the triple jump, high jump, and long jump, while his father was a sprinter and long jumper — both went on to play sports at Texas A&M. His older brother currently plays football at Texas State University and has been a driving force in pushing Dillon to reach his potential.

On the football field for the Panthers, Mitchell lines up at receiver, running back, and on special teams — wherever his speed can create the most damage. CE King's coaching staff acknowledges that his presence alone changes how opposing defenses prepare each week. The bigger goal, though, is bringing a state football championship trophy back to the school for the first time. For Mitchell, the track records are milestones; Arlington is the destination.
