Atascocita DBs Joshua Banks & Trenton Blaylock Set to Transform Eagles Defense

A 51-47 playoff loss to Dickinson last season told the story of Atascocita's 2024 campaign — plenty of points, not enough stops. The Eagles finished 6-5, a record that falls well below the standard for one of the Houston area's most prominent programs in District 17-6A. New head coach Kyle Coats inherits a roster with the offensive firepower to compete, but the focus this fall is on fixing the other side of the ball.

Two cornerbacks are at the center of that effort. Joshua Banks, a six-foot-one, 170-pound speedster who committed to Texas Tech, brings rare athleticism to the position — 576 return yards last season and a wind-aided 10.58 in the 100 meters. Banks transferred from California after his sophomore year and has steadily developed into one of the more versatile defensive backs in the region, lining up at receiver and in the return game as well.

Trenton Blaylock chose Oklahoma over Texas and Alabama, a recruiting decision that underscores his standing as one of the top prospects in the state. The six-foot-one, 175-pound cornerback ran a wind-aided 10.56 in the 100 meters and brings physicality to match his speed. He is the son of Derek Blaylock, who played in the NFL from 2001 to 2007 with the Jets and Chiefs.

Atascocita opens the season on the road against Katy Dekaney, then hosts Cibolo Steele before a Week 3 rematch with Dickinson — a quick early test of whether this defense has taken the step the program needs.
