Kellen Cantrell led all Houston-area scorers with 16 points as Team ASAK beat the New York Wiz Kids 69-61 at the Adidas Three Stripes Select Tournament.

Four Houston-area private school players made their mark at the Adidas Three Stripes Select Basketball Tournament last week at the Legends Event Center in Bryan, with Team ASAK's 17-and-under squad posting a 69-61 victory over the New York Wiz Kids.

Kellen Cantrell of Southeastern Episcopal was the standout performer among the Houston contingent, leading all local scorers with 16 points. Shooting with consistency from the perimeter, Cantrell helped Team ASAK build a 30-23 halftime lead before the squad closed it out in the second half.

Joining Cantrell on the ASAK 17U roster were William Arriaga of Houston Christian, Dan Mangala of Westbury Christian, and Marley Maxwell of Saint Francis Episcopal — a group that highlighted the depth of talent coming out of Houston-area private schools. Maxwell added a bucket of his own as the team held off New York down the stretch.

The tournament, which drew Lone Star State standouts alongside out-of-state competition, gave the Houston-area players a chance to compete on a regional stage against talent from across the country.
