Sweeny High School senior Kiana Bernard has discovered a new passion and incredible strength in powerlifting. After spending her early high school years playing basketball and performing on the dance team, Kiana transitioned to powerlifting during her junior year. Under the guidance of coaches Amanda and Robby Robbins, she quickly became a standout athlete. At the Class 4A state championships in Edinburg, Kiana placed fourth overall, boasting an impressive 450-pound squat, a 265-pound bench press, and a 350-pound deadlift. Her hard work, along with the success of other state qualifiers, has even helped Sweeny secure a new weight room. Kiana's journey highlights the rapid growth of high school powerlifting and the impact of dedicated student-athletes.
