St. Thomas Upsets Top-Ranked Kinkaid 31-28 | Texas Oncology Team of the Week

The highest-ranked Houston private school in the state came in as the favorite. St. Thomas left with the win.

The Eagles knocked off Kinkaid 31-28 in a back-and-forth contest that wasn't decided until the final whistle. St. Thomas entered the game still searching for its first win of the season, but nothing about the performance suggested a team in desperation mode.

Quarterback Pierce Jacobson got things going early, connecting with Web Lewis on a quick-hitter that turned into a 33-yard gain after Lewis broke through a pair of arm tackles. The combination clicked again before halftime — this time for 45 yards — giving St. Thomas a 17-14 lead at the break.

Kinkaid, led by Arizona commit Wayne Shanks Jr., stayed dangerous throughout. Shanks finished with three touchdowns, including a pitch-and-score on the perimeter that got the Falcons on the board early. But it was a defensive play that briefly swung momentum back to Kinkaid — Keen Robertson jumped a route and returned the interception 56 yards for a score to make it 24-21.

St. Thomas answered. Myles Stewart took over in the fourth quarter, first capping a go-ahead drive with a 17-yard run, then breaking free up the middle and getting outside to extend the lead. The Eagles held on to secure the 31-28 upset.
