Madison Tops Waltrip 48-28 to Claim 10-5A Division 1 Title | 7-Game Win Streak
Seven straight wins and a district title to show for it. Houston Madison claimed the District 10-5A Division 1 championship with a 48-28 victory over crosstown rival Houston Waltrip, and the Marlins wasted no time making their case.
Wide receiver Juel Peterson was the story of the first quarter. Quarterback S.J. Battle found him twice, the first a 65-yard catch-and-run down the sideline after a clean over-the-shoulder grab. By the end of the opening frame, Madison led 14-0 and had already established the matchup that would define the game.
Waltrip responded in the second quarter when James Haren made a sharp read on an RPO, weaved through traffic, and took it 40 yards to pull the Rams back within seven. But Madison's offense kept finding answers. Battle went back to Peterson on a flanker screen, and some quick footwork after the catch extended the lead again.
The final score of 48-28 gives Madison its seventh consecutive win and the 10-5A Division 1 district crown — a title that came down to this matchup between two Houston ISD programs with plenty of history between them.
