Shadow Creek Stuns State Contender Summer Creek 24-14 at Freedom Field

Freedom Field hosted one of the early-season surprises in the Houston area as Shadow Creek handed Summer Creek a 24-14 defeat, knocking off a program widely regarded as a state title contender before the final whistle had a chance to feel real.

Shadow Creek quarterback Tavis Coleman controlled the game from the opening drive. He connected with Aden Starling on a fingertip grab in the end zone for the first score, then went deep to Brandon La Fell Jr., who got behind the Summer Creek secondary on an 84-yard touchdown that pushed the Sharks' lead to 14-0. Coleman added a third scoring strike, hitting Bryce Coleman in the flat to make it 21-0 before Summer Creek had found its footing.

The Bulldogs showed life in the third quarter when Keshawn Jackson punched it in from a yard out, and he found the end zone again in the fourth on a 4-yard run to cut the deficit to 24-14. But Summer Creek's final drive ended when Noah Spinks' desperation pass was picked off by Kevin Jackson, closing the door on any comeback.

The 24-14 final stands as one of the more notable upsets of the young season in Houston-area football, with Shadow Creek's Sharks serving notice that they are capable of competing with the classification's elite.
