The Pearland Oilers softball team continued their dominant run in District 22-6A with a decisive 9-2 victory over the Alvin Yellowjackets on Tuesday. Alvin took an early lead in the first inning when leadoff hitter Marlee Van Ness hit a solo home run over the center-field wall. However, Pearland answered back in the third inning with a game-changing grand slam by Olivia Mateska to take a 4-1 lead. Alvin attempted a rally in the fourth inning with an RBI double from Larissa Montoya, but Pearland pitcher Maddy Guzman escaped a bases-loaded jam with a crucial strikeout. The Oilers extended their lead in the fifth inning with a two-run opposite-field hit by Alaina Njus and an RBI single from Payton Shugart. With this impressive win, Pearland improves to a perfect 10-0 record in district play.
