District 19-6A play got underway at The Rig in Pearland, and the Oilers wasted no time making a statement against crosstown rival Dawson, rolling to a 48-14 victory in what turned into a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.
The defense did the early heavy lifting. Jayden Larry burst through the line, delivered a jarring hit that forced a fumble, recovered the ball, and returned it for a touchdown to put Pearland up 7-0. On Dawson's next possession, Terrell Johnson stepped in front of a pass, ripped it away, and the interception set up a short touchdown run that pushed the lead to 14-0.
Pearland's offense joined the party in the second quarter when Ryan Miller took a toss and beat everyone to the pylon, extending the lead to 24-0. Dawson had a chance to get on the board before halftime, driving inside the 1-yard line, but coughed up the ball — and Kamryn Harris was there to fall on it, keeping the shutout intact heading into the break.
The first play of the second half ended the suspense. Royce Swan made a sharp move at the line of scrimmage, found open field, and turned it into a 74-yard touchdown run. The Oilers went on to win 48-14, a convincing start to district play that signals Pearland is a team to watch in 19-6A this season.
