North Shore Dominates Lancaster 35-0 in Title Defense Opener

A 35-0 shutout in a season opener sends a message. For North Shore, the defending 6A-Division 1 state champions, that message came through loud and clear against Lancaster.

The Mustangs controlled the game from the opening drive. Darrell Haynes carried the load early, scoring on a 13-yard run in the first quarter and adding a second rushing touchdown in the second to push the lead to 14-0. North Shore's offense was efficient, but it was the complementary football that made this one a rout.

The defense got in on the scoring when Juan Hernandez picked off a Joseph Hairston pass and returned it deep into Lancaster territory. Ja'Voris Taylor cashed in a few plays later, keeping it on the read option and scoring from 16 yards out to extend the lead.

Special teams then delivered the knockout blow before halftime. Lorenzo Lathan burst up the middle to block a Lancaster punt, scooped the ball, and scored — pushing North Shore's lead to 28-0 at the break.

Kaden Brandley added a second-half touchdown, turning the corner around left end and outrunning the defense to the end zone. The final: North Shore 35, Lancaster 0.

The Mustangs, who play out of the Houston area in UIL 6A-Division 1, enter the season as one of the state's premier programs. This opener showed the depth and execution that has defined their championship run.
