Nate Carrier's 40-Yard FG Lifts Cy Ranch Over CE King 31-28
A 40-yard field goal from Nate Carrier as the clock hit zero sent Cy Ranch home with a 31-28 victory over CE King in a Friday night matchup between two Houston-area programs that lived up to its billing.
The Mustangs came out of the gate fast. Quarterback Braden Baker was sharp early, connecting with Derrick McCullar for their second touchdown of the first quarter to put Cy Ranch up 14-0. Baker's poise in the pocket set the tone for what would be a big night through the air.
CE King refused to fold. Khylan Davis got the Panthers on the board before halftime, cutting the deficit to 21-7, then took matters into his own hands in the fourth quarter — handing off to A'Rhiyan Montgomery, who punched it in to give CE King a 28-21 lead and put the Mustangs on their heels.
Baker answered. He found Joshua Richard Jr. open in the end zone to knot the game at 28 and set up one of the more dramatic finishes of the young season. With the score tied and the clock winding down, Carrier stepped up and converted the 40-yarder to seal it.
Cy Ranch moves on with the 31-28 victory, while CE King will look to regroup after letting a fourth-quarter lead slip away.
