MoTown Showdown: Montgomery Edges Lake Creek 42-35 in Thriller

Both teams came in undefeated. Both teams left everything on the field. When Montgomery and Lake Creek met in the annual MoTown Showdown, the result was a seven-touchdown second half and a finish that wasn't decided until the final seconds.

Lake Creek drew first blood on a short touchdown run by quarterback Asher Ryan, but Montgomery answered in the second quarter. Bryce Miles connected with Luke Piro on a touchdown pass to even the score, and Josh Warren — operating as a wildcat-style running back — broke loose for a long touchdown run to give the Bears a 14-7 halftime lead.

Lake Creek came out of the locker room with urgency. Ryan found Logan Woods for a short scoring strike to tie the game, then hit Chance Miller in the end zone moments later to put the Lions in front 21-14. Montgomery responded with a pair of touchdowns, including another deep strike from Miles to Piro, to reclaim the lead at 28-21.

Ryan and Miller connected again to keep Lake Creek within striking distance, and the game was eventually knotted at 35 with under a minute to play. That's when Oklahoma commit Keldrid Ben took over. After a short touchdown run earlier in the half, Ben took a handoff from four yards out and punched in the go-ahead score to make it 42-35.

Montgomery then forced a fumble in the closing seconds to seal the victory, improving to 4-0 on the season while handing Lake Creek its first loss.
