Milby Wins High-Scoring Opener Over Austin 62-40 | Houston ISD Rivalry

Sixty-two points and a statement win — that's how Milby opened its season Thursday night against fellow Houston ISD school Austin, pulling away for a 62-40 victory in a game that was far closer than the final score suggests.

Artavion Davis was the standout performer for Milby, finishing with four touchdowns. He got things started early, hauling in a slant pass from Gabriel Gutierrez, splitting defenders, and taking it to the house to give Milby an 8-7 lead. Davis added three more scores in the second half as the Milby offense found another gear after the break.

Austin refused to fold in the first half. Running back Tyre Arnaud broke out of the backfield, made a couple of jukes, and got to the outside to score. James Brown then turned a quick slant into a long touchdown, showing the burst of speed to outrun the defense to the end zone. Andre Lewis capped the first-half scoring for Milby in the final seconds, and the two teams went into the locker room knotted at 26.

The second half belonged to Milby. The Buffaloes scored five times after the break, turning a tied game into a comfortable 22-point win. For Austin, the loss is a tough opener, but the first-half performance showed enough firepower to keep opponents honest as district play approaches.
