The Lake Creek Lions secured their first-ever state soccer championship in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Grapevine. Riding a nine-game winning streak into the postseason, Lake Creek's tough early-season schedule paid off. The Lions took a 1-0 lead just before halftime when Lainy Zabiegala capitalized on a defensive error. Early in the second half, Hallie Montgomery extended the lead to 2-0. However, Grapevine fought back as Maddison Patton scored two spectacular goals to tie the game at 2-2 with just eight minutes remaining. The decisive moment came shortly after when Rylee Struyk's shot deflected off the goalkeeper, allowing Harper Montgomery to head in the game-winning goal. This historic win marks a monumental achievement for the Lake Creek high school soccer program.
