The Kingwood girls soccer team capped off an incredible unbeaten season by capturing the 6A-D2 state championship in a dramatic matchup against Forney. Trailing 1-0 in the 80th and final minute of regulation, Kingwood kept their title hopes alive when Aubrey Carlucci's close-range attempt was stopped, allowing Tyler Weaver to fire the rebound into an open net. The clutch equalizer sent the championship match into extra time and eventually a penalty kick shootout. In the fourth round of PKs, Kingwood goalkeeper Hazel Rutherford made a spectacular diving save to shift the momentum. Tyler Weaver then stepped up and calmly buried her penalty kick, securing a 4-2 shootout victory. The thrilling win cemented Kingwood's perfect season and earned them the highly coveted 6A-D2 state title.
