Katy Jordan Holds Off Houston Lamar 41-27 in Season Opener

A 20-point halftime cushion proved just enough for Katy Jordan, which survived a second-half rally from Houston Lamar to open its season with a 41-27 victory on Thursday night.

Thomas Eugate orchestrated the Warriors' offense early, connecting with Mo Poko on a diving endzone catch to put Jordan on the board first. Eugate added another scoring strike to Landon Williams, who dragged a defender across the goal line, as Jordan pushed the lead to 27-7 at the half.

Houston Lamar, coming off a win in its own season opener the week prior, refused to fold. Quarterback Jayden Robins went back to his favorite target, Ja-Carsten Landor, twice in the second half — the second time Landor broke a tackle and sprinted in for the score. Robins then found Kaiden Hewett on a jump-ball grab to pull the Texans within a touchdown and make it a one-score game.

Jordan answered the threat when running back Jordan Hightower punched it in from the two-yard line, putting the game out of reach and closing out the 41-27 final.
