Houston Memorial Stays Perfect at 8-0 With 35-16 Win Over Lamar

November 5, 2026
Houston Memorial improves to 8-0 and eyes the 20-6A top seed after a 35-16 win over Lamar, fueled by two Conrad Bennett TDs and a blocked punt return score.

A perfect record and the top seed in District 20-6A are within reach for Houston Memorial. The Mustangs rolled to a 35-16 victory over Houston Lamar, improving to 8-0 on the season and keeping their grip on first place in 20-6A.

Memorial wasted no time establishing control, building a 14-0 lead in the first half. Conrad Bennett was a force in the short-yardage game, taking direct snaps and punching in two rushing touchdowns — including a goal-line carry in the third quarter where he absorbed a big hit but held on to extend the lead to 28-9.

The play of the night may have come on special teams. With Lamar back to punt, Jackson Van Wie burst through the line, blocked the kick cleanly, and returned it 20 yards for a score — a sequence that pushed Memorial's lead to 21-0 and effectively ended the contest as a competition.

Lamar showed some fight in the second half. Quarterback Jayden Robins connected with Terrence Lewis on an acrobatic catch between three defenders, keeping the Texans from being shut out. But Memorial answered every challenge.

Maximillian Costa sealed it in the fourth quarter, taking a reverse, cutting back inside, and finding the end zone to make it 35-16. The final score matched the tone of the game — a dominant performance by a Memorial squad that looks every bit like a district champion in the making.
