Fort Bend Ridge Point Stays Unbeaten with 56-35 Win Over Bridgeland

Through three weeks, Fort Bend Ridge Point has been one of the Houston area's most pleasant surprises. The Panthers made that case emphatically on Thursday night, rolling past a 2-0 Bridgeland team 56-35 in a game that featured big plays on both sides from the opening possession.

Bridgeland wasted no time establishing its ground game. On just the third play of the contest, running back Kash Schwab took a delay handoff, stiff-armed a defender, and turned it into a 61-yard touchdown to put the Bears up 7-0. The lead lasted all of about 30 seconds. Kallen Brigham fielded the ensuing kickoff at his own 10-yard line, found a crease, used a jab step to beat the kicker, and returned it 90 yards to tie the game at 7.

From there, Ridge Point quarterback Brody Bartee took over. He connected with John Rangel on a quick-hitter that Rangel turned into a scoring play with a spin move down the sideline — their second touchdown hookup of the first half. Bartee later went deep down the middle to Suhaib Ramseur for a 54-yard score, and the two connected again in the second half to put the game away.

Schwab did everything he could to keep Bridgeland competitive, finishing with three rushing touchdowns including a second-half score up the gut. Taylon Villanueva also showed some versatility, faking a run before firing a bullet to Jackson Gurber, who made a leaping grab to keep the Bears within striking distance.

It wasn't enough. Ridge Point's offense generated points at will, and the Panthers walked away with a 56-35 final to improve to 3-0 on the young season.
