Dobie - Chevy Spotlight

Pasadena Dobie is off to another great start. The Longhorns are undefeated and look to be heading to a title in their new district, 22-6A. Dobie has been a favorite in years past, but never really the Top Dog like they are this year. They feel like they’re finally getting the recognition they deserve.

And some of the little things that Coach Kevin Berneathy (Bur-NEATH-ee) has his Longhorns taking care of is mastering his Wing T Offense. This is Berneathy’s 3rd year as head man at Dobie and each year his players have gotten better at running his style offense.

Traditionally, the Wing T is an offense based on misdirection and play action that keeps the defense guessing on who gets the ball. However, primarily it’s a running offense. That is, until Berneathy made some tweaks this year. Suddenly the Longhorn offense has gone airborne more than it ever has.

Dobie has made the playoffs 8 out of the last 10 years, but hasn’t seen much success after that. The Longhorns haven’t made it out of the bi-district round since 2004. And with a possible matchup with either Atascocita or North Shore in the first round, breaking that 16 year streak seems daunting, but it’s a challenge the Longhorns gladly accept.
