Dickinson Tops Barbers Hill 55-42 in District 18-6A Showdown
Two unbeatens. One district title race. Dickinson and Barbers Hill came into their District 18-6A matchup a combined 6-0, and the winner would hold the inside track on the championship. When the final whistle blew, it was the Gators walking away with a 55-42 victory and a statement win over one of the area's top programs.
Barbers Hill struck first when quarterback Luke Babin tucked the ball and turned a broken play into a 32-yard touchdown run. Dickinson answered quickly—Lorenzo Aguirre hit Jayse Washington on a 26-yard play-action strike to level the score at 7-7. Aguirre then found Cedric Brown out of the backfield to push the Gators ahead 14-7 before the quarter ended.
The second quarter saw Barbers Hill's Kaedin Lewis haul in a catch in traffic to tie the game at 21, but Aguirre had the last word before halftime—connecting with Brown again to set up a short touchdown run that sent Dickinson into the break leading 28-21.
The third quarter belonged almost entirely to Aguirre and Ja'Marion Payne. The two connected twice for touchdowns, including a sharp over-the-shoulder grab, as Dickinson steadily extended its lead. The Gators never looked back, closing out a 55-42 final that was more comfortable than the score suggests by the end.
With the win, Dickinson improves to 4-0 and sits atop the District 18-6A standings. Barbers Hill, now 3-1 in district play, faces a tougher road to the title.
