November 5, 2026
Marcus Smith threw and ran for touchdowns as Cy Lakes beat Cy Woods 28-22, extending their winning streak to five games in District 16-6A.

Five straight wins. That's where Cy Lakes stands after a 28-22 victory over Cy Woods on Saturday, a result that carries real weight in the District 16-6A race with both programs fighting for positioning near the top of the standings.

The Spartans struck first, with quarterback Marcus Smith connecting with Darius Watson over his defender for a touchdown on the opening possession. Cy Woods answered in the first quarter when Corey McKenzie broke up the middle for a 44-yard score, giving the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.

Smith took over from there. In the second quarter, he kept the ball on the option and punched it in himself, pushing Lakes back in front by ten. Cy Woods trimmed the deficit to four before halftime on a Axel Adams run around the left side with a cutback, making it 17-13 heading into the break.

The fourth quarter belonged to Smith again. He rolled out and found Watson in the back of the end zone for the go-ahead score, sealing the 28-22 final. Watson finished with two receiving touchdowns, and Smith's dual-threat performance was the defining factor in a rivalry game that stayed competitive into the final minutes.
