In a battle of two of the hottest teams in Houston high school baseball, the Tomball Cougars faced off against Magnolia West. Tomball entered the game on a 16-game winning streak, while Magnolia West had won nine straight. The game proved to be a defensive struggle, with the only run coming in the fourth inning on a wild pitch that allowed Colson Cahal to score. That was all the support Tomball pitcher CJ Sampson needed. Sampson threw a complete-game shutout, recording seven strikeouts to lead Tomball to a 1-0 victory.
