Angleton Survives Friendswood Comeback in District 11-5A Thriller | 28-21

November 5, 2026
Angleton edges Friendswood 28-21 in a District 11-5A Division I clash, surviving a late comeback to stay undefeated heading into a showdown with Randle.

Two undefeated teams, one district title on the line — and it came down to the final minute. Angleton's 28-21 victory over Friendswood in a District 11-5A Division I showdown was anything but clean, but the Wildcats found a way when it mattered most.

Head coach Jason Brittain's squad controlled the first half behind a stout defensive performance. Devyn Evans picked off Friendswood quarterback Josh Brister to set the tone, and Kasen Jammer — fittingly running the wildcat formation — punched in a touchdown run to give Angleton an early lead. Jammer is one of those all-purpose weapons that forces defenses to account for him on every snap.

Friendswood clawed back in the third quarter when Brister connected with Jackson Owens on a short touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 10-7. Angleton answered early in the fourth when running back Jayden Moore powered through for a 20-yard score, and Jammer added a two-point conversion to push the lead to 21-7.

That's when Owens took over. On the very next possession, he caught a short pass and turned it into a 75-plus-yard touchdown. Then, with Angleton still clinging to a one-score lead, Brister found Nate Roher wide open in the end zone. The extra point tied it at 21 with the clock winding down.

What followed was the kind of moment that gets remembered in a program's history. With under a minute to play, quarterback Trey Gardner — whose father serves as the Wildcats' defensive coordinator — hit Jake Brittain, the head coach's son, near midfield. Brittain made the catch, cut back against the grain, and outran the defense to the end zone. The 28-21 final kept Angleton's perfect record intact and handed Friendswood its first loss of the season.

The Wildcats don't get a breather. Angleton faces undefeated Randle next week in what shapes up as another high-stakes district contest.
