AJ Alix, Bellaire Basketball - 2012 - 2013 Chevrolet Female Athlete of the Year

03/16/13

Bellaire head coach Mike Kramer is retiring after over three decades in coaching, it's safe to say in all that time he hasn't seen many players as good as A.J. Alix. I first saw her she had talent in the 8th grade she was at one of our feeder schools, and she just had it, maybe it’s running with the boys or playing against her brothers, but she just had a natural ability she works hard and is always trying to get better and it paid off. Bellaire always has great players for me to be in that is great, it's crazy I play with good players around Houston for me to get better if you work hard you can be great, but you have to keep working. Alix has developed into one of the top guards in the country, but is rather surprised by all of her success. I didn't see it coming at all, I thought coming in I'll do ok it won't be great til my senior but I did it early and I wanted to do it some more. She helped Bellaire make it to the regional finals her freshman year as a starter, and as she heads off to TCU it's likely she'll start again as a Freshman next season. The Horned Frogs will be getting a talent with tremendous ball handling ability, great vision, and a knack for getting to the basket, not to mention a fiery on court personality. It's excited I'm pretty nervous about it probably gonna be starting, so there's gonna be more pressure. We've had some phenomenal games where she came through for 4 years, she’s always getting her team involved and she’s a fighter she gave it everything and it's paid off and she has an opportunity to start, since some of the players are graduating, and once she gets used to that level of play there is a difference, but once she gets used to it, it's gonna be just fine. Congratulations to A.J. Alix the Chevrolet Female Athlete of the Year.
