Alvin vs. Stratford - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
Alvin visits Stratford, and it’s the debut for new Alvin coach Tim Teykl(take-ul), who spent 26 years at Rosenberg Terry before serving as an assistant at U-H. Early problems for the yellow jackets though. The ball squirts loose and Stratford’s Luke Simonich is there for the Spartans recovery. Stratford cashes the turnover into points. Darese Steptoe (duh-reese) takes the handoff and scampers into the end zone from 8 yards out, Spartans up 7-0. In the 2nd, Stratford quarterback Dylan Shoemake swings it out to Nicholas Barenstecker, who muscles his way across the goalline for a 10-yard score and Stratford takes a 14-0 halftime lead. Moving to the 3rd, Steptoe gets the carry and he gets to the edge, he breaks free for 34 of his 122 yards on the night to get Stratford deep into Alvin territory. Moments later, Steptoe steps through a Yellow Jackets defender and right into the end zone for his second score of the night, 11 yard td and it’s 21-0 Stratford. Late in the third, it’s Diego Denson drawing the handoff for Stratford, and Denson dances right through the defense, 54 yards untouched for the score, and Stratford spoils Teykl’s debut at Alvin with a 28-0 shutout victory.
New Caney vs. Crosby - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
Let’s head over to Crosby, where the Cougars welcome New Caney to open the season… In the first, New Caney’s Zion Childress launches deep downfield for Cale Sanders Jr, and check out the fingertip grab by Sanders. 36 yard pitch and catch, Eagles up 7-0. Eagles on the move once again, and this time Childress decides to keep it himself. Great blocking up front and Childress trots in untouched, 9 yard score and it’s 14-0 New Caney. Still in the first, Childress looking for more, he fires into the end zone, but there’s Jaden fields to pick off the pass for Crosby. Nice return by fields also, as he brings it out all the way to the 28 yard line. Moments later, Deniquez Dunn airs it out downfield for E’Monte williams. Nice grab by Williams and he breaks free from the defender, and he takes it the distance. 74 yard scoring strike gets Crosby on the board, it’s 14-8. New Caney responds in the second. Childress calls his own number again, and he has another huge hole. He can walk in, 17 yards untouched, Eagles on top 21-8 at halftime. Crosby looking to rally back in the fourth, Dunn looking downfield but his pass is tipped, and Kay-lie Jackson pulls it in for the New Caney interception. Then on the very next play, Sanders gets the carry, and he has plenty of daylight. What a job by New Caney offensive line all night, Sanders travels 58 yards for the touchdown to put this one away, New Caney takes down Crosby, 28-8 is the final.
Fort Bend Marshall vs. Eisenhower - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
Fort Bend Marshall played for a state title last season, the buffs fired up to begin the 2019 campaign at Eisenhower. Early problems for Ike on special teams, the punter can’t handle the snap and here comes Christian Jackson flying into your screen to fall on the loose ball for a buffaloes touchdown, Marshall leads 6-0. Still in the first, Marshall quarterback Malik Hornsby airing it deep, and what a perfectly thrown ball, he hits Devon Achane in stride and Achane tip-toes down the sideline for a 63-yard score, it’s 13-0 buffaloes. In the 2nd, Hornsby keeping it on the read option, he gets into the open field and he has a convoy of blockers with him leading him down the sideline, he trots into the end zone for a 69 yard score, Marshall leads 20-0 at intermission. In the third, Hornsby swings it out to Achane, and the Achane train is leaving the station! He’s off to the races and you aren’t going catch Achane from behind. The buffs offense looks like it’s in midseason form, 84 yards for the touchdown and it’s 26-0. Finally, it’s Hornsby lofting one up top for Lawrence Armstrong, nice touch on the deep ball for a 26 yard touchdown and fort bend Marshall rolls past Eisenhower, 32-9 is the final.

Lamar vs. Westfield - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
A couple of the area’s top defenses meet Thursday night in Spring as Westfield welcomes Lamar… both defenses answer the call and this one is scoreless through three quarters. in the fourth, Lamar running back Alontai Brewer trying to make something happen, but there’s Westfield’s Ashton Harris to strip the ball loose and Dillon Peavy recovers for the Mustangs at the Lamar 29. And Westfield makes the Texans pay for the miscue. Kendal Taylor takes the handoff and barrels through a defender to get into the end zone, a 14 yard touchdown run to break the scoreless deadlock, Mustangs up 7-0. Later in the fourth, Taylor gets his number called again, and number one answers the call one more time. He weaves his way 35 yards for the touchdown, and Westfield posts a season-opening shutout win, 14-0 is the final.
Fort Bend Travis vs. Fort Bend Hightower - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
Fort Bend Travis taking on Hightower, check out Hightower quarterback Keith Fountain flipping it to Ronald Carroll and Carroll takes care of the rest. He goes 50 yards for the score, Hurricanes up 22-14.
Atascocita vs. Katy Taylor - 2019 Week 1 Football Highlights
Great story over at legacy stadium tonight. That’s Tyler Credeur serving as a captain for Katy Taylor. Tyler is a burn patient at Shriners hospitals for children and had to learn how to walk again, but tonight Tyler led the mustangs onto the field for their season opener against Atascocita.
