Yates Lions vs. Kennedale Wildcats - 2013/14 Boys Basketball - 03/07/14
The Lions came out fired up, although the Kennedale fans pretended not to notice. Yates taking care of business from beyond the arc, Lorenzo Phillips connects for one of his three, 1st quarter three pointers. Phillips led all scorers with 28. Kennedale looked comfortable with the up and down pace as VJ Hughes polishes off the break and Kennedale was up 11-8. Melvin Swift picked up his 3rd foul with :50 seconds left in the 1st quarter, but Yates has so many weapons that they didn't fall apart Future U of H Cougar JC Washington throws it down and it was 23-19 Yates after 1. Aundre Jackson had the Wildcats looking strong with 2 of his 21, but DJ Lewis gets the bucket for Yates he had 25 and the Lions went into the half up 50-38. Kennedale starts the 3rd on an 11-2 run, but Jacob Young heats up with a couple of treys to stop the bleeding. Young with 24 on the evening. Melvin Swift makes the Wildcats pay with the Jam but at 64-57 it was still up for grabs entering the 4th. With 1:26 to play Trystan Carr's only basket of the night is a beauty and more important it cuts the lead to 78-76. With just over a minute to play Davion Houston from the baseline with the clutch 3, Yates holds on 86-79 to set up a rematch of last years title game with Dallas Madison.
