01/19/13

Last week the North Forest & Wheatley girls met with 1st place on the line in district 21-4A, this week it was the North Forest & Wheatley boys squaring off for 1st. North Forest with the full court offense and good ball movement as Derek Harris gets it to Deron Wiley for an early 5 point lead. 6-1. Take a look at the defense from Tavario Miller, the 6'-8" power forward had a couple of blocks in the early going. Miller is headed to College Station next season. Wheatley bombs it's way back courtesy of Sean Johnson with back to back jumpers, this three pointsr gives the Wildcats it's 1st lead of the game 19-17 in the 2nd quarter. North Forest with the block on one end, then it's Donald McCullough with the dunk on other, as North Forest regains the lead. Wheatley goes on a big run after that, Kevon Johnson weaves thru the Bulldog defense for the bucket. Wheatley led by 4 at halftime, and Johnson had 17 points. 3rd quarter, Miller gets it down low and puts Wheatley up 9, Miller led the way with 18 points despite missing most of the 2nd half because he picked up his 4th foul after this exchange. North Forest takes advantage of the weakened Wheatley post presence as McCullough swoops in for a basket... But just to an extent. Wheatley proved to be too much, Jacolby Smith with the putback and the foul for a 3 point play 61-47 at that point and Wheatley gets the W. 86-71.
